A poignant image of an Inupiat family, undated. The father is holding a miniature drum (native peoples would often gather quite a crowd of European immigrants and Americans when they would hold a dancing ceremony, which would include drums, reed pipes and flutes, rattles and other instruments, and the ceremonies were quite popular). By his right leg is a small model "umiak" boat (a canoe-like boat the Inupiats and Yup'iks of Alaska used for fishing and hunting).
