Hello, thank you for such a wonderful history of Leonhard Seppala, Togo and the Nome Serum Run. I had the opportunity to visit the Iditarod National Headquarters in Wassila in 2006, and saw the mounted body of Togo.
Hi again Earl
Have you any insight into George Kimble beyond him being a prizefighter /businessman in Cleveland circa 1927 when he organized the Save Balto campaign?
oh dear. You will be unhappy to learn when I clicked on your former domain it took me to an adult porn site. Subsequent investigation (a call to the site selling domains) revealed your EX domain is for sale for $799. I'm sorry this whole deal happened. I was searching and saw the link in the book The Afterlives of Animals.
At any rate I worked recently with Lee Gamboll at CNHM on her Iditarod background. I am researching the part of the story involving Cleveland, Richard Kimble et al. I will write further after I have read your whole site.
i think balto is cute
First of all, I want to say thanks for this amazing site, and congrats for your hard work and efforts to collect all this information. I'm always being interested about Balto since I was a kid, and even on this days, he still being my hero. But I didn't know much about the background story and all the other heroes who were involved. Now I can learn more details about what actually happened then. So thanks a lot for this.
I've had until recently Siberian Huskies since 1991, love the breed and the history of the breed, very nice site, learned some things about these dogs on this historical run that I did not know before, good work
When I was in Alaska 6 years ago with my daughter, we were travelling from Chena hot springs to Fairbanks and stopped at a Kennelthat gave "tours". They had a little shop that had some sleds and a large number o Huskies. On sight was a bronze sculpture of Balto by Heather C Brown. I have a picture that I could send you that people could download as it is at least a 5meg picture.
What a wonderful site. I rescued a siberian Husky a year ago & really have enjoyed this wonderful informative site. Thank You for all of your hard work!!
Our class is reading and doing a book study on Balto. We live in South Louisiana where it rarely snows (if it does it is a flurry or 2 and does not stick). The kids are having fun learning about this true hero@
